SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Operations, coordinate, supervise, and direct personnel, subcontractors, and the daily activities involved in the successful execution of events and maintenance of the entire facility by performing the following duties personally and through subordinate supervisors.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following.  Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

 

  • Assist in the overseeing of all aspects of operations including OSHA and ADA compliance for the entire complex along with the EHS Manager.

  • Manage subordinate supervisors who oversee employees in various functions.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Implement and train employees on the operating procedures, preventive maintenance schedules, emergency plans, and safety/risk management policies that conform to corporate standards.

  • Attend staff meetings.  Develop and maintain a harmonious working relationship with all other departments. 

  • Review contracts and speak with subcontractors to determine special requirements.  Inspect conversions, construction, and installation progress to ensure conformance to established specifications.

  • Act as a liaison between tenants and facility contractors as needed.

  • Plan, budget and schedule facility modifications including cost estimates, bid sheets, and layouts.

  • Rotate with other facility personnel to function as Manager on Duty (MOD), who maintains total responsibility and authority over all clients, staff personnel, patrons, security and safety in assigned buildings.  Responsibilities include but not limited to making sure contractual agreements are met have been made in a timely fashion.  On-duty staff/subcontractors ultimately report to the MOD through any Managers or Supervisors who are present during the event.

  • Supervises installation of electrical equipment and wiring; inspection and adjustments of existing electrical equipment and replacement of receptacles, wiring switches, etc.

  • Obtains cost estimates for supplies; obtains supplies and repair parts from distributors; maintains inventory of supplies; orders new equipment.

  • Responds to emergency requests, on a 24-hour basis, as required.

  • Instructs skilled trades and maintenance workers for mechanical equipment maintenance and repair.

  • Assess the current condition of electrical, air conditioning, plumbing and other essential facilities and equipment.

  • Maintain accurate records of the condition of the equipment and other systems in the building.

  • Create a schedule of regular evaluation of the Facility.

  • Ensure that all the equipment and other facilities are working properly.

  • Create monitoring systems or programs in the institution to detect problems are as early as possible.

  • Develop back up or alternative systems for common problems such as power shortage.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises one or more skilled trades worker(s) and Supervisors in the Operations Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM Global’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year college or university or multiple trade schools.

  • Recommended, but not required to have 5 years related experience and/or training in the public assembly industry in a supervisory or management position.

  • Preferred to have 2-4 years as a General Contractor.

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to this job:

  • Demonstrate knowledge in operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility.

  • Possess skills and experience in purchasing procedures and supervising/training personnel.

  • Engage in much decision making that is generally governed by procedure and guided by policy.

  • Read and comprehend blueprints, drawings and other related materials.

  • Meet the physical demands of this job, which include being able to get in and around the facility (requires personal mobility), lifting, carrying, moving, climbing, working from various heights, and moderate to loud noises.

  • Operate equipment such as light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, boom lifts, Zamboni machine, scrubbing machines or other light power-driven equipment.

  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with other in both oral and written form.

  • Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines. 

  • Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.

  • Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons and others encountered in the course of employment.

  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Be licensed and insured to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.

  • Possess any licenses, certificates or training required by local, state or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility, electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning.

  • Heavy lifting up to 100lbs.

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.

COMPUTER SKILLS                        

  • Operate a personal computer using Windows and Microsoft 365 software.

  • Operate standard office equipment including copier.

 

HOURS OF WORK AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel negligible

  • Requires ability to work extended and flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays in addition to normal business hours.
