About the Arena

Whether it’s the action of an NBA basketball game or the excitement of a live concert or world-class event, more than one million guests create memories each year at Paycom Center.

Paycom Center (100 W. Reno Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73102) is conveniently located just off Interstate 40 in downtown Oklahoma City, which continues to rank among the strongest-performing metros. The facility is owned by the City of Oklahoma City and managed by ASM Global.

History

After breaking ground in the Spring of 1999, construction began on the new downtown arena funded by MAPS, Oklahoma City’s visionary capital improvement program to finance new and upgraded sports, entertainment, cultural and convention facilities with a one-cent sales tax. The 581,000-square-foot facility was designed to meet National Hockey League requirements. The state-of-the-art venue was completed at a cost of $89.2 million and opened its doors on June 8, 2002. The Grand Opening Celebration included a dedication ceremony led by former Oklahoma City Mayor Kirk Humphreys, as well as a special “Open House” event for the entire community.

The Facility

Paycom Center is owned by the City of Oklahoma City and managed by ASM Global. ASM Global was formed in October 2019 from the merger of AEG Facilities, the global innovator in live entertainment venues, and SMG, the gold standard in event management. ASM Global is a venue management powerhouse that spans five continents, 14 countries and more than 300 of the world’s most prestigious arenas, stadiums, convention and exhibit centers, and performing arts venues. As the world’s most trusted venue manager, ASM Global provides venue strategy and management, sales, marketing, event booking and programming, construction and design consulting, and pre-opening services. Among the venues in our portfolio are landmark facilities such as McCormick Place & Soldier Field in Chicago, the Los Angeles Convention Center, Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans and the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Conference Centre in Shenzhen, China. ASM Global also offers food and beverage operations through its concessions and catering companies.

The Events

Since opening its doors, Paycom Center has hosted more than 1,200 events and over 10 million fans. Home to the Oklahoma City Thunder (beginning with the 2008-09 NBA season), the arena has also served as home to the Oklahoma City Blazers (Central Hockey League), Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (arenafootball2), and the New Orleans Hornets (during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 NBA Seasons). The facility also plays host to major concerts, sporting events, family shows and world-class entertainment.

Concerts

Paycom Center has hosted numerous sold-out events, including concert performances by Bon Jovi, Britney Spears, Cher, Justin Bieber, Eric Clapton, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Lady Gaga, Tim McGraw & Faith Hill, Jason Aldean, Jay-Z and more. To date, Paul McCartney, Elton John and Billy Joel, the Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles are among the top grossing artists to play the Paycom Center. Not surprisingly, Paycom Center made Pollstar’s list of Top Ten Concert Venues for ticket sales in North America during its first year of operation and has continued to rank among the Top 25 as recently as 2009 when renovations began.

Sporting Events

Major sporting events have included the 2004 McDonald's High School All-American Game, 2007 and 2009 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championships and 2014 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship.

Oklahoma City has also had the privilege of hosting the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship First and Second Rounds in 2003, 2005 and 2010, NCAA Women’s Basketball Regionals in 2008, 2009, 2013 and 2015 and the NCAA Division I Men’s Wrestling Championships in 2006 and 2014. Paycom Center hosted its first NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship in December 2014.

Televised Events

A number of the other major events hosted by Paycom Center have been televised nationally and/or internationally including Mission Oklahoma City with Billy Graham in 2003, WWE's Unforgiven pay-per-view in 2005, the Oklahoma Centennial Spectacular in 2007 and the Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert in 2013 to benefit storm victims in Oklahoma.

Family Shows

Family shows and other special events have also had a significant presence on our schedule. In fact, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey was the first event to play Paycom Center in June 2002. The Greatest Show on Earth then returned for a series of June performances in 2004, 2006 and 2008. But, it was not the only “circus” to make repeat appearances. Cirque du Soleil has visited Oklahoma City with DELIRIUM in both 2006 and 2007, Saltimbanco in 2008, Dralion in 2012 and Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour in 2014. The Harlem Globetrotters, Monster Jam, Sesame Street Live, Lipizzaner Stallions, and The Wiggles have also made multiple appearances on the arena’s calendar, as having holiday performances by Mannheim Steamroller, Bill Gaither, and Friends, and the increasingly popular Trans-Siberian Orchestra. In 2008, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular made its Oklahoma City debut during the show's first ever arena tour.
